Definition of Discussion Text

    What is a discussion text?

Discussion Text is a text which presents a problematic discourse. This problem will be discussed from different viewpoints. A discussion is commonly found in a philosophical, historical, and social text. A discussion text is created as a bridge between pro and con argument, so that the readers will not only read argument from one side of view but from both perspective, making it easier to find the solution for the problem.

Examples of Discussion Text

Nuclear Energy : Advantage Or Disadvantage

Nuclear energy is commonly offered as an alternative to overcome the crisis of energy with its high massive amount of energy produced and cleaner than coal. The debate whether the use of nuclear energy is an appropriate choice or not, has not come to an end. Some people agree with the utilization of it because of its benefits. Some others, however, disagree because of its risks to the environment and misuse.

Those who agree with the operation of nuclear reactors as an energy source usually argue that nuclear energy is the only feasible choice to answer the ever – increasing energy needs of today's world. In their opinion, the other sources of energy: oil, coal, and liquid natural gas are not renewable, not safe, and increase carbon emission even more, while nuclear energy can be sustainable and clean when produced in a safe way.

However, people who disagree with the use of nuclear energy point out that the waste of nuclear products can completely destroy the environment, animals, and human lives. A meltdown or leakage in reactor, for example, usually results in the contamination of the surroundings soil and water. Take for example, the blow up of the nuclear reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station in Russia twenty years ago. The serious contamination imperiled people and the environment severely causing the entire area classified as exclusion zone, not allowing everyone to enter the area due to high concentration of nuclear radiation.

It is obvious that nuclear energy should be avoided because it really endangers the environment if not done safely and carefully, but what about a less polluted energy instead of nuclear energy. Is there any alternative energy to overcome the crisis of energy ? In my opinion, nuclear energy is the best choice to overcome the crisis of energy today. However, government should make sure that nuclear reactor’s construction and maintains are safe.

How Total Solar Eclipses Occur

How Total Solar Eclipses Occur   Image Source      Total solar eclipse is a very rare natural phenomenon, it happens when the New Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth and casts the darkest part of its shadow, the umbra, on the Earth surface. There are five stages in a total solar eclipse: 1. Partial eclipse begins (1st contact): The Moon becomes visible over the Sun's disk. It looks like the Moon has taken a bite out of the Sun. 2. Total eclipse begins (2nd contact): The Moon covers the entire disk of the Sun. Observers in the Moon's umbra path may be able to see the diamond ring effect and Baily's beads just before totality. 3. Totality and maximum eclipse: The Moon completely covers the disk of the Sun. Only the Sun's corona is visible. This is the most dramatic stage of a total solar eclipse. At this time, the sky goes dark, temperatures can fall, and birds and animals often go quiet. The midpoint of time of totality is known as the maximum point of the eclipse.
